NRA Law Enforcement / Security Instructor Development School - Handgun / Shotgun Instructor

Course Description: This school is NRA’s premier handgun and shotgun instructor school. Students are taught classroom instructional methods, how to effectively teach firearm operator skills, and how to develop dynamic and practical range training relevant to their agency's needs. This school schedules handgun instructor school for 3 days and shotgun instructor training for 2 days, for a combined total of 5 days. Handgun drills on the range enforce skills in the areas of coaching, accurate shot placement, multiple threats, decision-making, shooting while moving, identifying threats and firing in reduced light, tactical use of cover, one-handed malfunction clearing, and use of verbal commands. The students must demonstrate his or her understanding of the course content through a written exam and pass a shooting skills proficiency course. Shotgun instructor training involves shotgun marksmanship, handling classroom presentations, and range work. Shotgun drills include firing from cover, use of kneeling and prone positions, moving targets, malfunction clearing, firing on the move, and transitioning to the handgun. This course is taught by Certified NRA Instructors.

Course Requirements:
Handgun - Back-up or off-duty firearm and equipment. May be a duty pistol or revolver. Holster may be IWB, ankle, paddle, fanny-pack, or other suitable concealed carry holster. At least one magazine pouch and 3 magazines or speed-loaders are required, 800 rounds of duty or training handgun ammunition, 400 rounds of duty or training handgun ammunition (for off-duty pistol)
Shotgun - Duty-type, law enforcement 12-gauge pump or semi-auto police shotgun equipped with a sling, 900 rounds of duty or training handgun ammunition, 50 rounds of duty or training 12 gauge slugs, 20 rounds of duty or training 12 gauge 00 buckshot, 100 rounds of birdshot (#6, #7½, #8 or #9).

Course Location / Fees: October 24 - 28, 2016 -  9:00am to 5:00pm (one day will be in the evening for low light conditions, day and time TBA)

NRA FIRST Steps Rifle Orientation

Course Description: FIRST Steps - Firearms Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training - is the NRA's response to the American public's need for firearms orientation for the beginning shooter or new rifle owner. This course provides hand-on orientation to the safe handling and proper orientation of the students specific model of rifle.  This course is taught by a NRA Certified Instructor.

Course Requirements: Eye/Ear Protection, 50 Rounds of Ammunition, Rifle, Reloading Device, and Sling.

NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

Course Description: This course is designed to teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. In this course the student will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, and shooting fundamentals. This course is a hand-on course and is geared toward the novice to intermediately skilled person. This course is taught by a NRA Certified Instructor.

Course Requirements: Eye/Ear Protection, 100-150 Rounds of Ammunition, Pistol, Reloading Device, and Holster.
